Kouga's a wolf demon, he is the leader of his tribe in the Eastern Wolf Pack. He first appear as a villain in vol 14 of Manga. He was pursuing a wolf deon who has stolen one of his three Shikon shards. He has one shard in each or his legs, the one that was stolen was in his right arm ,but Naraku stole it. He reclaimed the shard then slaughtered the thied, then allowed his wolves to attack anf feed on the villagers, which include Rin. When Inu Yasha found out about the village Kouga attacked. Inu Yahsa attack the remaining wolves who then call Kouga. The two of them faught briefly, Kouga then noted Kagome's ability to see the shikon shard, he ended the battle by runnig away and plotted Kagome's kidnapping. He manage to capture Kagome and Shippou to his pack's den explaned that he need her to fight his clan's enemies, the harpied or paradise birds as they have been variously translated.Kagome seems to recognize some good properties in Kouga or possibly the evil in the siamese twins that leads that harpies. She helps him much to Inu Yasha's confusion and hurt, Kougagets the information he needs from her then remands her into safe keeping of his loyal packmates Ginta and Kakkaku, he defeats his enemy with some unwanted help from Inu Yasha, he sees that his rival has rescued that Kagome is "his women", vows that he has "fallen in love with her" After the intial introduction, it appears that Kouga undergoes and amazing change in personality and point of view. He allow his wolves to eat human, courts Kagome bringing her flowers and protecting her whenever possiblt and irritating Inu Yasha as much as possible.
Kouga's entire pack except Ginta and Kakkaku(and Ayame in the anime) are lured to their death b xombies controlled by Naraku's detechment Kagura, after the slaughter, he vows to destroy her and Naraku at any cost. Since that is also the goal of both Inu Yasha's party and Sesshomaru's it's inevitable that their paths will continue to cross in the future and thanks to Kagome's influence hi is now a "goos guy". Inu Yasha and Kouga always fight for something, mostly about Kagome, since Kouga vows that Kagome will be "his women" Inu Yasha will get jealous and get into a fight with him...they always spat out insults at each other like flea bag, dog breath and stuff, he said to Kagome "If you come with me and not that dog breath, I'll asure you that I'll treat you better and protecter you with my life!" and when Kagome was looking pale and stuff, he will blame Inu Yahsa for not looking after her properly...
Ayame just like Kouga, who lives with the northern part of the wolf demon tribe, she was promised by Kpuga that they would marry later on, but since he "fell in love" with Kagome, he has yet to keep his promise to her, Ayame dislike Kagome at first because their name sounded similar, although only the last syllable is the same, later though, it seems they're more friendly towards each other.
Goraishi five finger Thunder Fingers, this claw-like weapon is a relic of the wolf demon clans, it lies dormant beneath the flesh of Kouga's hand springing forth when he wished to be use it. It was guarded by the spirits of the wolf tribes' ancestors, all of whom are old men wearing demon skulls and fur. They also seem to be able to communicate their thoughts to Koga via the Goraishi. Koga was able to pass the test of the guardians and win it.
It can be used as a slashing weapon and also has a powerful magic attack, which is on par with, if not stronger than Inuyasha's Kaze no Kizu, or even Bakuryūha, as Koga did manage to knock down adamant spears from Mouryoumaru earlier on (before Mouryoumaru's aquirement of Shikon shards). Also it seems to emit divine energy, which is different from the holy energy used by Miroku or the demonic energy used by Inuyasha.
Koga was informed upon receiving the weapon that it would protect him only one time from Midoriko's will over the Jewel shards. The one-time protection was used after Kagome's arrow purified Naraku's aura which was preventing the protection from being activated. This protection was so strong that not only did it overcome Midoriko's power, which was trying to allow Naraku to consume Koga in her plot to complete the Shikon no Tama, but also defeated Naraku's aura as Koga was able to go through Naraku's shoki without being harmed. In the end, Naraku's body erupted, as the divine protection allowed Koga safe passage outside Naraku's flesh.
Kouga's lesser abilities, most of these abilities havce been deminished or in some cases lost with the loos of his shards. Speed and Agility, with the help of the Shikon shards, Kouga's able to move much faster than other wolf demons, it's often symbolized in the anime and manga as a whirlwing of sudt and debris kicked up as he runs. However, when the shards were stolen by Naraku, he can no longer run as fast as he could. Swardskill, Kouga carries an odnary katana, taken from a human kill that he uses once in the manga, he never use it and states that the sward was only for decoration. Claws, Kouga can use his claws as weapons, though in the anime they aew most aften drawn as normal fingernails rather than the claws that are present in the manga. Shard kick, like regular kick but with the help of the Shikon shard.
